什么是run-on sentence?
A run-on sentence is a sentence in which two or more independent clauses (that is, complete sentences) are joined without appropriate punctuation or conjunction. It is generally considered to be a grammatical error though it is occasionally used in literature and may be used as a rhetorical device. An example of a run-on is a comma splice, in which two independent clauses are joined with a comma without an accompanying coordinating conjunction.[1][2] Some grammarians exclude comma splices from the definition of a run-on sentence[3], though this does not imply that such usage is acceptable.
The mere fact that a sentence is long does not make it a run-on sentence; sentences are run-ons only when they contain more than one complete idea. A run-on sentence can be as short as four words—for instance: I drive she walks. In this case there are two complete ideas (independent clauses): two subjects paired with two (intransitive) verbs. So long as clauses are punctuated appropriately, a writer can assemble multiple independent clauses in a single sentence; in fact, a properly constructed sentence can be extended indefinitely.
简而言之,run-on sentence是指句子之间或独立子句之间句号省略而标点错误的句子。
说白了,就是在英语中不能用逗号连接两个句意及结构都完整的独立的句子。
该用句号的地方,你用的是逗号。
run out和run out of的用法有什么区别
区别:1、两个词组作用光、用尽 之意时,从词性来说由于多了一个of,run out of变成了相当于及物动词,而run out 是相当于不及物动词 。最重要的不是他们的主语,而是他们后面的成分. run out of 可以有宾语, 但是是介词宾语, 所以没有被动语态. 例如:The water had run out.水已经被用掉了。Tom has run out of the water.汤姆用完了水。2、意思不完全相同run out:1.跑出去;匆匆离开:sb run out to do sth Lots of students ran out to see what had happened.许多学生跑出去看发生了什么事情。2.(液体)流出:The water runs out at the other end of the pipe.污水每天从管道中流出来。3.到期,期满:Our contract runs out at the end of the month.我们的合同在本月底到期。4.被耗尽,被用完:You'd better go home before your money runs out.你最好别等钱花光再回家。run out of:1.从…跑出来: Sb run out of .....,All the students run out of the classrooms as soon as the bell rings.铃声一响,学生们都从教室里跑出来。2.(液体)从…流出:Filthy water runs out of the pipe every day.污水每天从管道中流出来。3.耗尽,用完: sb run out of sthWe ran out of coal, and had to burn wood.我们的煤用光了,只好烧柴。4.[美国英语]强迫离开;驱逐出…:They ran the spies out of the country.他们将间谍驱逐出境。 扩展资料Run其他的短语1、Run away 逃跑;失控2、run on 继续,继续下去;连续不断;流逝;涉及3、run out 用完;耗尽;跑出;到期;伸向4、on the run 在逃;奔波;跑着5、run into someone 偶然遇见某人6、run into 遭遇,陷入;撞上,撞到;偶然遇见7、run for 竞选;匆匆去取;赶紧去请8、run through 跑着穿过;浏览;刺;挥霍9、in the short run 从短期看,在不久的将来10、run out of 用完11、run with 鼓励;与…一起跑;与…交往12、run wild 失去控制;变得荒芜13、run at 冲过去袭击14、run from 逃避,飞奔以逃离15、run counter to 违反;与…背道而驰16、run time 运行时间;电脑运作时间17、run off 逃跑;印出;流掉;进行决赛
什么是run-on sentence
square用on还是in
一、on表示在“面”上,in表示在“范围”内.
He is walking on the square.表示“他在广场上散步(步行/行走)”.等一会,他就可能正在街道上走了.
He is walking in the square.就是 “他在广场散步”.走来走去但不会出广场这个范围.
Whi is in the big square?中的BE动词是静态的,人在这个“大广场”中,显得很渺小,用"in"比用on好.
